Robert’s 70th

Robert Helfer’s 70th Birthday

His birthday is September 8. We will be celebrating at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park over Labor Day weekend. Lisa needs to know by August 12 how many people to expect for dinner Saturday and Sunday.  If you have photos or reminiscences to share, please email them to Lisa by then, too.

Accommodations and Reservations

Robert and Lisa have a six-bedroom company house – currently for Robert and Lisa, his sister Jacquie and Frank, her brother Eric, daughter Hilde & Kevin and son Keith, son Arend, which leaves at least one bedroom free if anyone is interested.

Information and reservations for company house rentals here

Reservations are recommended for the train ride to Bald Knob on Sunday. Information here.

Other places to stay include camping (no reservations available, but they are generally not nearly full) or cabins at Seneca State Forest.

There are also B&Bs in the area, and the Inn at Snowshoe is 11 miles up the mountain.

Getting There

If you are thinking of flying, I recommend Pittsburgh. Charleston is about an hour closer, but the roads are more mountainous, and the flights are more limited.  Google says the drive from Cass to Pittsburgh is just over 4 hours. It is just under 2 from our house. There are limited flights to Morgantown and Clarksburg, and to Blacksburg, Virginia.

Driving from the east, US 250 from I81 is your best bet, from the north or west, I-79 to US 33 to Elkins and south on US 250 and 219, and from the south or west, I-64 to 219. They are all beautiful drives. But look at Google maps for ideas.
