Double Chocolate Drops

Makes 3 dozen.

1/2 cup nuts [opt.]-chopped coarsely
1 6-oz. package semisweet chocolate chip
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup granulated white sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup warm water

Start your oven at 350°. Melt half of chocolate pieces over hot water. Sift flour, soda, and salt together. Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and cooled melted chocolate. Add flour mixture and warm water alternately. Stir in nuts and remaining chocolate pieces. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake 12-15 minutes.
