This was a magazine recipe, with photographs of the steps, that Mother clipped and pasted in her cookbook. I still get cravings for it.
4 to 5 oz. dried beef
4tbl. butter or margarine
3 tbl. flour
2 cups milk
Separate beef and tear large slices into smaller pieces. Pour hot water over to cover; drain immediately. Melt butter in large skillet or saucepan. Add beef, frizzle over medium heat about 5 minutes until edges curl. Sprinkle flour over top of frizzled beef; stir until bubbly and well-blended. Remove from heat and gradually stir in the milk. Bring to boil over low heat, stirring constantly until thick and smooth. Serve hot over crisp toast.
